COVER REVEAL // Without Benefits by Nicole Tone

March 18, 2016
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

I was fortunate enough to read an early version of Without Benefits as an introduction to the Woman’s Fiction genre. Never having read within that genre before, and starting with Nicole’s has created a fan out of me! Without Benefits is a can’t-put-it-down, heart-wrenching tale of romance, independence and friendship. I’m so excited for my good friend, Nicole, and her story comes out in a little less than three months from now!

I mentioned in the other cover reveal earlier this week that I’ve been focusing on custom photography in my book cover projects. Without Benefits is my next venture into this arena, and what you see below is a 100% custom shoot that I’m super proud of, and I’m so glad Nicole let me experiment like this:

Emma will always be a New Yorker at heart, even though she has a perfect life in Seattle. She has a prestigious job fundraising for the Seattle Symphony, a handsome boyfriend who adores her, and a Belltown apartment with views of the Sound. It should be more than enough to keep her pain from not playing the piano, and her 9/11 nightmares, away.

But when her old college crush, Owen, comes back into her life, it’s more than just spending time with him that’s causing cracks in her picture-perfect life. As she steps back on stage, and back into the spotlight, her connection with Owen and his world, dredges up old memories that Emma worked hard to forget.

Emma’s past comes back to haunt her, forcing her to face the truth about more than just her fears of returning back to New York. As her once perfect life begins to burn down, Emma is forced to figure out what she really wants: her fundraiser and cocktail party-filled life with her boyfriend, or forging a new future with the one thing, and one person, she’s ever loved–even if it means returning to New York.

Without Benefits is a beautiful and moving exploration of modern relationships and family written in the vein of Taylor Jenkins Reid and Renee Carlino.

COVER REVEAL // Pieced Together by Kelly Moore

March 15, 2016
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

I love my job. I don’t think I can say that enough. And, ever since I went freelance full-time, I’ve been working on more book covers than ever! When I was introduced to Kelly, she presented her project and an awesome challenge, different from a lot of things I’ve worked on in the past. Recently, I’ve been getting into custom photography for my book covers, opposed to using stock (which I still do, it’s just more fun to do it all yourself). Knowing I wouldn’t find the right stock imagery for her concept, I created my own! I’m so excited to share the first (yes, first. There will be more to come!) cover design with custom photography:

Kyren couldn’t get over killing Brogan’s father, even though he did it to save her. The demons of his own past took control, and he left her when she needed him most. In the aftermath of their agonizing breakup, Kyren and Brogan sought healing on very different paths. She moved to a remote island in Maine and started a new life, while he isolated himself on his yacht, and almost drowned in booze and guilt. After three long years, they’re each in a good place. Neither can forget the intense, passionate love they shared, but they’re both sure it’s over for good. Too much time has passed. There’s too much old hurt.

Fate intervenes, however, and places Kyren on Brogan’s doorstep. For both of them, it’s like they were never apart. His body craves hers, and she immediately longs to submit to his magnetism. Brogan is terrified of giving in to their passion. Can he be the man she needs him to be? Will he break her heart again? She’s not the same person she was back then. She’s stronger, and she has a big secret. Has he learned from his own demons? And most importantly, when she comes clean, will he be able to handle the truth?

Cover Reveal // Sachael Desires by Melody Winter

October 27, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

Just because I haven’t posted these in a while, doesn’t mean they haven’t been happening. I need to get back in the groove of a posting schedule, so what better way to start than with a cover reveal? (None. The answer is there is no better way.)

This time I’m happy to reveal a sequel cover I created for the beautifully mystifying SACHAEL DREAMS from REUTS PublicationsSachael Desires, by the lovely Melody Winter, comes out next month! Here’s the blurb and cover:

During her ordeal with the Sect, Estelle Bailey dreamt of escaping back into the arms of the sea—and Azariah. But freedom came at a price, and though she’s back with the Sachael who’s stolen her heart, she’s also land-bound until the next full moon. And with the threat of Orontes looming ever larger behind them, Azariah, Estelle, and Michael—her once-captor turned rescuer and friend—are on the run.

Following Michael’s lead, they seek sanctuary amidst the natural beauty of the Orkney and Shetland Islands until Estelle can complete her next submergence ritual and Azariah can whisk her away to the safety of Saicean.

Secrets, betrayals, and old enemies await them, though, and as events spiral out of control, Azariah makes a decision that puts all their lives at risk, forcing Estelle to face a journey she never wanted to take. With time running out and tempers running high, her only hope to save the man she loves lies in a reconciliation between two kingdoms who despise each other.

Book Two in the Mine Series, Sachael Desires further expands on the intricate underwater world of the Sachaels, and the hostility and isolation of not belonging.

Weekly Review // Cover Reveals!

July 10, 2015

This week was an exciting one for me, REUTS and Cardboard Monet—not only one but two cover reveals! I love all the covers I make, but these two in particular have a special place in my portfolio, namely because they’re SO DIFFERENT and really allowed me to flex my creative muscles. If you’re wondering what I mean, you can see my entire portfolio at :)

Split the Party by Drew Hayes (sequel to NPCs)

Fleeing from a vengeful king has sent the former NPCs across Solium’s borders, into the kingdom of Alcatham. As wanted fugitives, they head to the small farming village of Briarwillow, hoping to blend in, lay-low, and avoid trouble at all costs.

Unfortunately, Briarwillow has problems all its own, and its troubles quickly become theirs. If they hope to survive long enough to escape, they’ll have to tackle an all-but-forgotten mystery buried at the town’s border, as well as seek the wisdom of a mysterious group of mages.

With time, magic, and at least one god against them, it will take everything they’ve got to save Briarwillow, and themselves.

The Untold Tale (The Accidental Turn Series, Book I) by J.M. Frey

Official blurb coming soon, but for now here’s the unofficial one:

THE UNTOLD TALE follows Pip, who is pulled against her will into the epic fantasy novel series she’s loved since she was a teenager. However, the world is darker, and far more dangerous than she could have ever predicted, especially when it turns out the hero is a much bigger misogynistic ass than she knew.  Pip knows how to circumnavigate the Hero’s Journey and the pitfalls and loopholes of this particular world – but what will happen to her beloved characters outside of the comfort of the fantasy they were written for?

Both books will be out later this year, and you should definitely plan on carving out some time to read both. And I’d love to hear what you think about these two designs. Start a conversation in the comments below, or on Twitter.

Cover Reveal // Dancing in the Athenian Rain by Katie Hamstead

July 6, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

Cover reveal? I love cover reveals! Drinks all around!

I’m so happy to participate in author and friend Katie Hamstead’s cover reveal for her next title, DANCING IN THE ATHENIAN RAIN. If you aren’t familiar with Katie, she’s the Amazon bestselling author of the Kiya series, and has a new book out with REUTS Publications, titled Deceptive Cadence (do yourself a huge favor and check it out—she’s fantastic at making you cry and fall in love at the very same time).

Here’s the blurb for Dancing in the Athenian Rain:

When Donna is sent back in time to Classical Athens, she’s furious at Dr. Stephens for sending her against her wishes. Then a Greek soldier purchases her to be his wife.

She’s forced to learn a new language and culture, and faces her fears of never returning to her own time. The society hates her, especially because they think she’s an Amazon, which forces her to confront her issues—being compared to her genius brother, borderline abusive friends, and a cheating boyfriend.

But her husband, Peleus, is kind and patient. Although against her best judgment, she allows him into her heart. He counters all the negative voices from her past, but those voices drive a wedge between them. She must let go of her fears, her inhibitions, and insecurities, and admit her feelings, or she could lose him and the life they’ve built.

Born and raised in Australia, Katie’s early years of day dreaming in the “bush”, and having her father tell her wild bedtime stories, inspired her passion for writing.

After graduating High School, she became a foreign exchange student where she met a young man who several years later she married. Now she lives in Arizona with her husband, daughter and their dog.

She has a diploma in travel and tourism which helps inspire her writing. She currently works as an Acquisitions Editor with Curiosity Quills Press to help support her family.

Katie loves to out sing her friends and family, play sports and be a good wife and mother. She loves to write, and takes the few spare moments in her day to work on her novels.

Cover Reveal // LINK by Summer Wier

June 23, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

I’m always happy to participate in my own cover reveals since I’m proud to have been a part of an authors journey to publication. LINK, by author (and good friend) Summer Wier is no different, and an especially fun one to reveal because it’s a bit of a departure from my typical design aesthetic but I’m really (really) happy and excited with how it turned out. There are three books in Summer’s THE SHADOW OF LIGHT series, so I have the opportunity to apply a really cool brand across two more covers! Well, I’ve said enough, here’s the blurb, and if you can’t wait just scroll to the bottom to see the cover:

For seventeen-year-old Kira, there’s no better way to celebrate a birthday than being surrounded by friends and huddled beside a campfire deep in the woods. And with a birthday in the peak of summer, that includes late night swims under the stars.

Or at least, it used to.

Kira’s relaxing contemplation of the universe is interrupted when a piece of it falls, colliding with her and starting a chain of events that could unexpectedly lead to the one thing in her life that’s missing—her father.

Tossed into a pieced-together world of carnivals and gypsies, an old-fashioned farmhouse, and the alluring presence of a boy from another planet, Kira discovers she’s been transported to the center of a black hole, and there’s more to the story than science can explain. She’s now linked by starlight to the world inside the darkness. And her star is dying.

If she doesn’t return home before the star’s light disappears and her link breaks, she’ll be trapped forever. But she’s not the only one ensnared, and with time running out, she’ll have to find a way to save a part of her past and a part of her future, or risk losing everything she loves.

Dreamy, fluid, and beautiful, LINK pairs the mystery of science fiction with the minor-key melody of a dark fantasy, creating a tale that is as human as it is out of this world.

LINK by Summer Wier (The Shadow of Light, Book 1)

Summer Wier is an MBA toting accountant, undercover writer, and all around jack-of-all-trades. Link is her debut novel and the first in The Shadow of Light series. She has three short stories appearing in the soon-to-be-released anthology Fairly Twisted Tales For A Horribly Ever After and is working with a co-author on an upcoming web serial, Splinter. When she’s not digging through spreadsheets or playing mom, you can find her reading/writing, cooking, or dreaming of the mountains in Montana.

Cover Reveal // Off Book by Jessica Dall

April 9, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

Today is an exciting day for multiple reasons. First, it’s my kitten’s birthday, so a very happy 3rd birthday to my ‘little girl’ Dexter Chloe. She’s without a doubt the best cat I’ve ever met, and I’m thankful to call her mine. Not to mention she’s an adorable goof that loves belly scratches . . .

And I have a book cover to reveal! (Reason #2 today is exciting.)

Off Book caught my eye as soon as we received the submission over at REUTS. I’ve become a huge fan of meta-fiction, or in this case, meta-fantasy which is what Off Book is classified as. It takes book characters and makes them real. Have a look-see at the blurb:

Twenty-year-old Eloise has learned all she can from the School, where characters live until joining their novels. No one knows genre and plot structure better than her, but despite her knowledge, she’s yet to be assigned to her own story. All her friends are off starting their lives with their authors—and if Eloise doesn’t get assigned soon, she’ll fade away, forgotten by all.

When she is offered a job at the Recording Office, instead, she takes the chance to write her own future. Suddenly living among the post-storied, Eloise meets Barnaby Fitzwilliam, a former romance novel hero who hasn’t lost any of his in-story charm. But just as their relationship begins to get serious, Eloise is sucked into a novel she was never meant to be part of, turning everything they thought they knew about their world upside down.

Now, caught where the only rules are made by authors and truly anything is possible, Eloise must find her way back home—or her life might end before she ever gets the chance to live it.

Set in an intriguing, unique world, OFF BOOK explores the story beneath the stories we all know and love, taking readers and characters alike on an adventure just waiting to be written.

So designing for this one was fun, and most definitely meta.

Cover Reveal // The Best Kept Secret.

April 1, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

I’m a sucker for a well-designed book cover. Heck, this is my second cover reveal in one day! But it’s totally worth it because this cover is swoon-worthy. From the bright pastel colors, to the tracked out, san-serif font, I’m in love. Throw the author name in the middle of it? *dies*. But enough from me, here’s the blurb, and the cover below it:

In high school, everyone has secrets. Even well-brought-up Emma Fraser.

Emma’s sophomore year started out all wrong. First, her best friend Andy confessed to losing his virginity leaving Emma all alone in the V-Club. Then the rest of her friends got weird and suddenly Emma finds herself feeling like the people she knows best have become total strangers. And total strangers are becoming friends.

When Deegan Burke, a rich, gorgeous senior, asks Emma to be his date for the prom, Emma thinks her luck has begun to change. But rather than being able to bask in this newfound glory, her whole world starts to unravel. And when secrets that once seemed so innocent start to take a very dangerous turn, Emma discovers that true friends are friends no matter what…and some secrets aren’t worth keeping.

Cover Reveal // Deceptive Cadence.

April 1, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 2.15.45 PM

Back in February, REUTS signed and announced a duology from best-selling author Katie Hamstead. You can read the full press release here, and the blurb:

Cadence Anderson has the perfect definition of happily ever after . . .

Until she doesn’t. A freak earthquake shatters her life as surely as her home, taking away everything she holds dear. She wakes in a hospital to find that her beloved husband and infant daughter have been killed, crushed by the earthquake’s wrath. Disoriented, injured, and alone, Cadence refuses to accept the loss. So when a man claiming to be her guardian angel appears and offers her a chance to go back in time to save her family, she doesn’t need to give it a second thought. She accepts.

Thrust back eleven years, she now faces the ordeal of high school all over again. But this time, she’s armed with all the knowledge of her adult life and the determined to do everything better, from preventing the loss of her best friend to avoiding her original, drama-inducing boyfriends. She’s focused solely on Austin, her future husband, and is content to bide her time until she meets him again.

But then James Gordon crosses her path. Cadence wants to remain single, but James has his sights set. He is determined to win her over, and he’s very hard to resist. As Cadence starts to develop unwanted feelings for him, she realizes he threatens to disrupt everything, changing the future and distracting her from her original goal. Now, Cadence must choose: deny the unpredictable and exciting path James offers her, or stay true to the life she had and is trying desperately to resurrect. Second chances are more complicated than they seem.

Deceptive Cadence combines the soaring emotion of a heartfelt romance with the innovative storytelling of magical realism, crafting a uniquely moving, intricate tale about love and loss that asks: what would you do if given the chance to right all your wrongs?

Not only did I have a chance to Deceptive Cadence (and its sequel, Diverging Cadence), but I was able to design both of the covers for Katie, creating a fluid concept and brand across the two. Today, however, I’m only able to reveal the cover for Deceptive Cadence, but hopefully it satiates* you enough to wait for the second cover reveal later this year (:

I’d feel weird saying something like “isn’t she a beaut?” because I’m the designer, so for now I’ll just leave this here. I’m excited to share, and I hope you’re excited to see (and read) Katie’s heart-wrenching, but beautiful story.

*Such a weird word. No wonder I don’t use it very often . . .
